THE SIMPLE GIFTS FOUNDATION, INC.

This page is in honor of Kamille Swanson.  Kamille, known as "Kami", is 6yoa and has Down Syndrome.

Kami was adopted by Donna in May 2001 when she was 3 days old.  She was strong through two stomach surgeries when she was 4 and 7 months old.  She is very healthy now and will be in 1st grade in the Fall.

In KamiLand, there is a world full of laughter, smiles, play, development, friendship and love.  It is a land where when you hear that first laugh from her, it travels all the way to your heart and stays with you forever.

Kami is a beautiful little girl who knows she has Down Syndrome and knows when other kids have similar features.  She is proud of herself just as God made her and has smiles that span our nation.  She knows so many things like her colors, counting to 25, shapes, how to spell her first & last name and is learning her address.  She loves Shrek, Barbie, Cinderella and reading books.  Kami enjoys events at Gigi's Playhouse, an awareness & activity center for children with Down Syndrome and their families in Hoffman Estates and Plainfield, IL.  She loves to attend music and pet therapy classes, as well as participate in Brownies.

There are many kids waiting to be adopted in Illinois and throughout the United States, especially kids with special needs.  I provided a loving home for a child and you can, too.  It is a most rewarding experience for the child and the adopting family.  You can get assistance with a home study, legal fees, adoption subsidies, free therapies in your home and the school setting, and post-adoption care & counseling.  Most importantly, tho, you will have a love everlasting within your whole family.

Please complete the Contact Us form on this website if you would like personally about the adoption experience, agencies in the area that have foster care and adoption opportunities, what a home study is like...or answer any questions you may have.

I invite you to enjoy the poem I made for Kami upon her first birthday, her baptism and her adoption blessing on May 1, 2002.

On day, two women were walking down the same road.  They didn’t know each other, so God brought them together in the middle.  They talked for a while and came to understand they had the same goal in life – to love and care for a special angel.

One day, one woman said to the other, “I can only take care of this angel with my heart & my mind.  Could you love this little girl and lead her on life’s journey?”  And the other woman said, “I would be honored.  This has been my lifelong dream.”

So, when the time came for you to enter the world, the woman was ready & waiting.  Everything was all set up for you.  Through many tears, smiles and profound love & strength, she gave you to me and said, “What will you name her?”  I answered, “Kamille, my dear Kamille.”

It was then that God silently told me, “I gave the gift of birth to her, but the gift of motherhood to you.”  And that, Kamille, is how I became your mommy.

May 4, 2001 is an extra special day, as mommy brought you home for the first time.  I couldn’t wait – just ask Grammy & Grandpa.  You were so tiny and everybody couldn’t wait to hold you.  And now you are one-year-old and still as beautiful as ever.

You are so pretty and such a good little girl.  Your smile, bright eyes, laughter, and especially those hugs & kisses keep us all coming back for more.  Through all of the nicknames you have, you are still the same happy, beautiful little girl we know and love as Kamille.  I hope you never lose your innocence, happiness and love.

You have been such a trooper through surgeries, doctor appointments and therapy.  You always bounce back, ready to go.  You have tons of love all around you and there is where it will stay.  Everyone here tonight has helped you and for that I am thankful.

On day, Kamille, you’ll know this story and be proud of it.  And I will be right there with you to share it.  God brought us together so perfectly; sometimes, I still can’t believe we are here together.

Not born of my bone nor from my flesh, more importantly, you were born from my heart.  You are the sunshine in my life and my best friend.  I am forever grateful to be your mommy.

I love you, honey.

Love, Mommy
